Chemainus has creatively carved a niche for itself in the growth industry of tourism. The town has been transformed into Canada's largest permanent outdoor art gallery, expressing through images the historical Chemainus and the town as it is evolving. The visitors have grown yearly in numbers as people come from all parts of the world to enjoy "The Little Town That Did".

Industry and manufacturing continue to grow along with the tourism industry. MacMillan Bloedel Limited restructured and modernized the new mill to create a smaller more efficient operation. The Chemainus Industrial Park contains the majority of serviced industrial land currently available in the Region. Many of the value added wood manufacturing industries have selected this location, close to the major transportation arteries for the Region.

An important developing attraction in Chemainus is the Pacific Rim Artisans Village. This major tourism initiative is the result of a focused union between the arts, business and government, designed to create a destination centre for the arts and culture of the Pacific Rim Nations. It will provide an environment in which individuals, multinational organizations and governments can showcase their art and culture to millions of visitors from around the world.
